LAN Parents Privacy Policy

Welcome to LAN Parents! This Privacy Policy explains how LAN Parents ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our mobile application.

1. Information We Collect

Information You Provide

Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address, username, and password (encrypted).
Profile Information: Your bio, profile picture, gaming preferences, console ownership, and games you play.
Content You Share: Posts, messages, reviews, marketplace listings, and any other content you create within the app.
Communications: Messages you send to other users through our chat features.
Waitlist Sign-ups: If you join the waitlist on lanparents.com, we collect the email address you enter. We use it only to tell you when LAN Parents launches. We do not sell it or use it for advertising.

Information Collected Automatically

Usage Data: Information about how you interact with the app, including features used and time spent.
Device Information: Device type, operating system, and unique device identifiers.
Session Recordings: Recordings of how you move through the app's screens, used to find and fix problems. Everything you type and all images, including photos and messages, are hidden on your device before anything is sent.
Push Notification Tokens: To send you notifications about messages, friend requests, and events.

Optional Information

Location Data: Only if you choose to use your current location. We use it once to fill in your city so you can find nearby LAN parties and gaming parents, and we save only the city name, not your exact position. You can turn off location access anytime in your device settings.
Online Status: Other users can see when you are active in the app. You can turn this off at any time with Appear Offline in Settings, which stops your activity being visible to anyone else.
Photo Library Access: Only when you choose to add a photo — to your profile, an event or LAN party you create, a marketplace listing, or a message. We access your photo library only at the moment you pick a photo, and we do not browse or upload anything you have not selected.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

Provide, maintain, and improve the LAN Parents app
Understand how the app is used so we can find and fix problems
Create and manage your account
Connect you with other gaming parents
Send notifications about messages, friend requests, and events you've RSVP'd to
Personalize your experience
Ensure community safety and prevent abuse
Communicate with you about app updates or important changes

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in these limited ways:

With Other Users: Your username, profile, and content you choose to share are visible to other LAN Parents users.
Service Providers: We use trusted third-party services (Supabase for database/authentication, Expo for app delivery and push notifications, Sentry for crash reporting, PostHog for app analytics) that help us operate the app.
Legal Requirements: If required by law or to protect rights, safety, or property.

4. Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information, including:

Encrypted password storage
HTTPS encryption for all data transmission
Secure database hosting through Supabase
Regular security reviews

However, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

5. Children's Privacy

LAN Parents is intended for users 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

6. Your Rights and Choices

You have the right to:

Access: Request a copy of your data
Correct: Update your profile information at any time within the app
Delete: Delete individual content you have posted, or delete your account and all associated data
Opt out: Disable push notifications, location sharing, or other features in your device settings
Block users: Block other users from contacting you
Leave the waitlist: Ask us to remove your email address from the waitlist at any time by contacting us at the email below

To delete your account, go to Profile → Settings → Delete Account and confirm. This permanently deletes your account and associated data — including your profile, posts, messages, listings, and any parties you host — directly within the app. To request a copy of your data, contact us at the email below. You can also delete individual posts you have made without deleting your account. A deleted post is removed from the app for everyone.

7. Data Retention

We retain your information as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

If you joined the waitlist on lanparents.com, we keep your email address until you ask us to remove it or we no longer need it to share launch news.

8. International Users

If you access LAN Parents from outside the United States, please note that your information may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in the United States.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or via email. Continued use of LAN Parents after changes means you accept the updated policy.

10. Third-Party Services

LAN Parents uses these third-party services:

Supabase — Database and authentication (privacy policy)
Expo — App delivery and push notifications (privacy policy)
Sentry — Crash and error reporting. When the app crashes or hits an error, a report with technical details (device model, iOS version, app version, and where in the app the error happened) is sent to Sentry so we can fix it. The report is linked to your LAN Parents account ID so we can tell which reports come from the same person and follow up; we do not attach your name, email address, or anything you have written in the app. (privacy policy)
PostHog — App analytics and session recordings. PostHog receives which screens you visit and when the app is opened or closed; basic device information (device model, iOS version, app version, language, and time zone); and recordings of your app sessions, in which everything you type and all images (including photos and messages) are hidden on your device before anything is sent. Your IP address is shortened before it is stored and is not used to determine your location. This information is linked to your LAN Parents account ID so we can connect a problem report to the session where it happened; we do not send your email address, username, or message contents. It is used only to operate and improve LAN Parents, and it is not sold, not shared with advertisers, and not used to track you across other companies' apps or websites. (privacy policy)
